Not long after our trip to Peru, I stumbled upon music by Xavier Rudd. His music, lyrics and personality immediately struck a chord with me. Xavier is not only a unique Australian singer-songwriter but also an activist. Fun fact for the ladies: in 2008 PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) named him sexiest Australian male vegetarian.
Rudd’s music videos are a tribute to traveling, humanity and nature. His latest album, Nanna, was recorded with the band The United Nations, but he can be an amazing one-man band of his own. I’ll definitely post more of him in the coming weeks and months. He has a diverse repertoire so I never get tired of him. For now, let’s start with one of his most upbeat and accessible song: Come People
I couldn’t think of a better way to kick-off our FeelMusic section. Come People symbolizes exactly how I felt the first days in wonderful Peru. Slowly shedding the stress of my regular 8,5-hour workdays + 2,5 hour daily commutes. Day after day, I felt more alive, more myself. This song has been on my playlists ever since I first discovered it. There’s no feeling like stepping off the train, following the stream of tired commuters while listening to this happy vibe as theme music.
It transports me to sunshine and exotic locations… where we can “pray for the path we seek” and where we “feel we are one, we are sacred”. And suddenly it becomes clear: if we think life is about making money to buy stuff, “we have been so mistaken”…
Come people – Xavier Rudd & the United Nations
Come people, come now people [x4]
Round and round we go again spirit quest for enlightenment
The rise and fall of things revealed of sacredness and woundedness to heal
Time to time she chimes in phrases from the internet
Of planetary alignment and the energetic push and pull we share
Who will hide and who will seek?
The suffering beneath your feet has been neglected through the ages
And I held that little girl she was a message in my dreaming
I bring my hands and I must stay and I will graciously set you free
Come people, come now people [x3]
Come fire clean these people
Come people, come now people
Feel the touch of a gentle rain and we pull together when the Earth she breaks
So why are we so divided?
Grandmother pull us out
Grandmother can you tell me how we have been so mistaken?
And I held that little girl she was a message in my dreaming
I bring my hands and I must stay and I will graciously set you free
Come people, come now people [x3]
Come Spirit through these people
Come people, come now people
And I believe we are one and we are sacred [x3]
I will hold you close [x2]
We pray to creator for the path we seek
Extend a hand to the tired and the weak
Why are we so divided?
We pray to creator for the path we seek
Extend a hand to the tired and the weak
Why are we so divided?
Grandmother pull us out
Grandmother can you tell me how we have been so mistaken
And I believe we are one and we are sacred
Yes I believe we are one and we are sacred
And I will hold you close
