Music.
I cannot live without it.
To me it’s as important as breathing.
Tapes and iPods
As long as I remember I have been collecting and compiling music. In the nineties on mixtapes, in the early 2000’s on CD and late 2000’s in iPod playlists. Then Spotify came and changed everything. Suddenly I had all the music of the world at my fingertips… just waiting to be discovered.
Spotify introduced me to genres and soundscapes I had never dreamed of. I started listening to music around the clock: at home, at the gym, while running or commuting and yes, even during work. I stay concentrated more easily with some chill electronic music in my ears. Whenever I’m on the road, my trusted companion – a noise-cancelling Sennheiser Wireless Momentum – is right there with me.
10.000? Are you kidding me?
People who know me, will tell you I have only one major issue with Spotify: their ridiculous 10.000 song limit.
Seriously, how can they offer you “unlimited music” and then limit your personal collection to 10.000 songs? Even my physical CD collection topped 10.000 songs long ago! It defies all logic.
That said, I must admit that I have immensely enjoyed their service ever since I became a paying customer back in 2010. Best spent 10 euros a month, ever! How some people are willing to dish out 10 euros for a few cups of coffee but consider 10 euros to access all music in the world as too expensive is also beyond me.
I actually bought my first smartphone for the Spotify service: a terribly designed device called a Samsung Galaxy Gio. It had 128 MB internal disk space and after adding an expensive 32 GB SD card I found out that the device didn’t allow you to install major applications on the card. Honestly, can you sell that crap and say “it’s expandable”? Expendable you mean! Anyway… I digress.
My music = Your music
Music playlists are like photofeeds to me… they remind me of specific moments, places and even people. When looking for an interesting topic for NoMoreMovies, I thought… why not do something different:
Why not share my musical discoveries with you?
Music is definitely a major part of my life and therefore should be part of NoMoreMovies.
Art is how we decorate space, Music is how we decorate time.
NoMoreMovies.com – 2017
Here’s to the ones who dream…
My public playlist NoMoreMovies.com – 2017 contains every song that somehow struck a chord with me in 2017.
Don’t be surprised… I have a very diverse taste in music… some of it you may like, other parts, not so much. Usually I’m on the lookout for some creativity or lyrics that resonate with me. Sometimes a specific vibe, mood or some humor can do the trick as well.
If you want to keep tabs on what I’m listening to… you can follow my playlist on Spotify.
Don’t start skipping from song to song, instead put this playlist on in the background or even better: download it for on the road. If you hear anything you like, no need to go to ye olde record store… just click the “+” sign to add it to your collection. How easy is that?
I hope I can inspire you to start listening to music a bit more attentively and who knows, after a while you’ll want to start building your own collection.
It’s worth it the effort 🙂
Synthwave – Futuristic Eighties
Lately I am into Synthwave (thanks Koen V. from Mush-Room and Tom B.)… a nostalgic mixture of futuristic sounds produced by vintage sounding 80s synthesizers. Combining retro and futuristic. What’s not to love?
Hey, even back in the day I was a fan of Vangelis and Jean-Michel Jarre! They’re not that different you know!
Shuffle, mix it, remix it… and tell me what you like (or despise) in the comments below or on Facebook.
DJ Kenny 😉
Leuk blogbericht! Ik ben benieuwd naar jouw muziek! Mijn eerste smartphone was ook een galaxy gio.. 😉 Ik betrap mezelf erop dat ik ook muziek link aan momenten, mensen…
