After saying goodbye to my friends and our newlyweds, my solo travel adventure was about start. First stop was Suomenlinna, Helsinki’s beautiful fortress island. As part of Unesco’s World Heritage list it is a must-see when visiting Helsinki. Join me for a walk on the island and browse through some photogalleries of my third day in Finland. Enjoy!
Traveling with Unlimited Data
I owe Rob one for his valuable advice on getting DNA unlimited prepaid sim during my stay in Finland. 7,90 euros for 7 days of ultra fast 4G mobile internet! Unlimited! How cool is that! Having internet in the palm of your hands makes traveling so much more efficient and agreeable. Hear me out…
Pascal got married!
After having taken in some of the beautiful landscapes on the way to Savonlinna, it’s time to start writing again. Here’s a summary of what went down the day of the wedding… A rousing tale of rock churches, party trams, bingo cards, candy bars and speeches on David Hasselhoff.
Nature walk in Nuuksio
For day one I joined Rob & Mathias for our first nature walk through the forests of Finland. We rented a white Volkswagen Up and drove up to Nuuksio national park for a 7 kilometer hike. We did not have a built-in satnav so Mathias had to hold Rob’s iPhone and tell him how to drive. Of course this ended up with the two of them bickering over missed turns much like a married couple. How appropriate thinking we were here for a wedding and all.
Meet the Finns
I assume Helsinki is the most densely populated area of Finland, but even here the streets are nowhere as crowded as in London, Brussels or Firenze to name a few. This may have something to do with the temperature but I have to keep reminding myself it’s october already, so holiday season is over.
Still, even if there were a lot more Finns on the streets, I doubt you would notice. At first they seem silent and private but as soon as you talk to them, they tend to be very open, humorous and kind. In short, they are my kind of people.
Beaver sausages and reindeer meat!
My first full day in Helsinki has come and gone and I’m able to share my first impressions with you.
Traveling solo
Here I am: in transit, in the airport and on my own. I am invited to a friends’ wedding in Helsinki.
The truth is, I have never traveled solo before…
Too old for this sh*t?
Dear readers, you have every right to be angry with me. Yes, you heard that right. Compare my blog to the Minimalists, Humans of New York or themakeupblogger.com and you will notice that NoMoreMovies lacks a clear message. My attempt at describing a vision and mission ended up being about getting our priorities straight, listening to ourselves, being more aware of the world around us and helping others where we can. Pretty vague, right?
Well, if you lack direction, it is always helpful to stop for a while. Just to look back and see how you got here in the first place. That’s my sole intention for this piece. Looking back at why I started NoMoreMovies in the first place, asking the question: am I too old for this sh*t, or should I keep on going?
Night walk through Bevel’s Lights
Winter is coming. No, I’m not referring to a new season of Game of Thrones… I’m talking about how you can sense that the year is drawing to a close. Days are getting shorter and the air is getting chilly in the evening. In short: it’s Sofie’s favorite time of year to go out for a walk. Or a night walk for that matter!
HIIT: the day after…
Today is the day after. The day after my first High Intensity Interval Training (= HIIT). There are dozens of reasons why I should have disliked this challenging workout, but in reality I enjoyed it. Allow me to share a story on overcoming my fear of group workouts. A story on Les Mills and the amazing team at EcoGym. And most of all: a story on the importance of allowing yourself to be bad at things…
